Chia Pet Herb Garden – A Great Gift For the Gardener in Your Life

Posted on June 26, 2021

A chia pet is a very useful herb. It grows very well in the outdoors in gardens that are semi-permanent or permanent. One chia plant can grow to over four feet and has a spread that is three to five feet. Some chia plants can be used both as a decorative herb and as a useful food source; chia seeds can be used to make tea, coffee, chocolate and cheese.

This plant grows well as a houseplant or as an indoor gardener’s best friend. It is easy to grow and very forgiving if you do not have much soil to work with. Most indoor plants prefer a rich soil with lots of light, but the chia prefers just the right amount of shade and moisture. Plant seeds indoors in a sunny window, and just as easily move them outdoors when the weather turns warm.

Seeds can be stored for months at a time in a plastic zipper bag inside a pair of plastic pants. Be sure that the seeds are completely dry before placing them into your chia herb garden. If you do not use the seeds within a month of planting them, they will germinate and begin to grow. Seeds should be divided and put into a small container first to prevent the plants from spreading their roots all over your house.

To save seeds from becoming moldy, store them tightly closed in sealed plastic bags. When you are ready to use them, remove the tiny black seeds from their packaging and place them into a nylon stocking. The seeds should remain in the storage container until needed. You will need to change the little black “babies” each season. These little seeds make excellent “bedding plants” for indoor gardener favorites such as sweet peas, carrots and corn.

Chia pet herb garden kits contain everything necessary for an attractive indoor gardening garden. They also come with a growing tray, chia seeds, planting guide, watering instructions and an herbal fertilizer. Most herb gardens require watering approximately once a week during the growing season. If you are not prepared to provide your own water, you will want to purchase a low-water chia gardening kit to conserve precious water.

Each chia pet kit has the appropriate amount of herbal fertilizers. There is no need to purchase extra fertilizers or supplements. All the chia pets require is a minimal amount of sunlight and regular watering. You do not have to concern yourself with weeds while you are planting the chia pet herb garden. The chia pets do not require mowing, weeding or spraying for disease prevention.
